Course Overview

This new course offers students the chance to further their studies of science that takes a different approach from the traditional A-level route. The National Extended Certificate in Applied Human Biology includes a range of practical laboratory experience and academic study.

To assist students in their studies and understanding of science in the wider world this course includes talks from industry professionals and visits to places of scientific interest and industry.

Course Requirements

PLEASE NOTE – YOU MUST APPLY FOR 3 A LEVELS.

4 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above (including maths and/or English Language).

What you will Learn

There are many benefits of studying Applied Human Biology. These include: trips to scientific industries, a variety of links to extracurricular lectures in Manchester and the surrounding areas, career events and university visits including the opportunity to visit and use university laboratories

Assessment

Across the 4 units, 2 are external exams worth 64% and 2 are internally assessed assignments worth 36%.. Assignments for the course are set and marked by teachers Tasks include providing students with work-based challenges in timed, realistic work conditions. Written exams include creating written answers to practical questions in exam conditions.

BSc (Hons) in Occupational Health if taken alongside a Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health
BSc in Nursing or Midwifery if taken if taken alongside a Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care
BSc (Hons) in Sport Science if taken alongside a Pearson BTEC Level 3 in Sport
BSc (Hons) in Nursing if taken alongside A Levels in Psychology and Sociology
A range of Higher Apprenticeships
