Course Overview

This T Level in Legal Services is a new two-year technical study programme, designed with employers to give young people the skills that the Legal Services industry needs. You will develop knowledge and skills that employers are looking for and that will enable you to start your professional career. The T Level Legal Services will provide a mixture of technical knowledge and skills as well as a relevant industry placement. The Legal Services sector is an important sector in the UK, contributing œ32billion per year to the economy. It offers employment at different levels and is part of every major industry in the country. The impact of the sector is felt every time a house is sold, a product is purchased, and a crime is committed. The sector has a highly skilled workforce that is essential to the country and continues to grow. On completion of the T Level in Legal Services, students will be able to choose between moving into a skilled occupation such as a Paralegal or Legal Secretary or to go into further and higher professional or academic study, for example, a higher degree level Paralegal Apprenticeship, or higher-level technical study including the study of Law in higher education.

Course Requirements

5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including maths and English Language.

What you will Learn

The Technical Qualification in Legal Services will give you the industry knowledge and skills required to work in the legal services sector. It will provide you with an up-to-date qualification within an ever-changing industry and enhance your employability within a dynamic market. Students who study a T Level in Legal Services with us will:

Develop Technical core skills, behaviours and knowledge to work in Legal practice, through class-based learning to achieve a technical qualification that is the equivalent to 3 A Levels.

Be able to apply skills and knowledge of Legal procedures in an industrial placement and work with partnership employers who will support employer-based project work.

Further develop their English, Maths and Digital Skills throughout the two-year course.

Develop their own research and analytical skills, use of variety of sources of information, problem solve and investigate to make reasoned conclusions, communicate those conclusions, and become solutions focused.

Work independently and collaborate with others.

Assessment

Assessment is externally set in the form of 2 written exam papers at the end of the course (synoptic in nature).
Successful completion of an employer led project and demonstration of specialist technical Legal skills will also form part of the assessment to achieve this course.

Mandatory Units

The Technical Qualification in Legal Services is split into two parts (known as Components). The Core and the Occupational Specialism. In the Core Component you will learn about the legal services industry and sector related topics including:

Research Skills
Professional Services

The Occupational Specialist Component is where you will really get stuck in and develop the business and legal skills in preparation for your career in industry. The Occupational Specialism that we deliver is Legal Services Assistant Crime, Criminal Justice and Social Welfare. In this component you will learn how to:

* Assist with the inception, progression, and completion of legal services within a Crime, Criminal Justice and Social Welfare environment.
* Carry out legal and factual research and present findings.
* Draft Legal documents and communications.

The T Level Technical Qualification in Legal Services is intended to be as practical as possible. You will not only learn these skills in preparation for your career, but you will also be undertaking lots of practical hands-on activities, projects and tasks to give you the experience employers are looking for. You will review case law and be asked to make judgements and recommendations based on the legal research you carry out.
