Course Overview

The BTEC in Art and Design Practice is a two-year art course equivalent to 3 A-levels. This broad and exciting practical course will provide you with opportunities to sample a wide range of specialist areas, develop your knowledge and creativity and produce a portfolio that will help you to progress onto study at Higher Education, gain an apprenticeship or employment.

Course Requirements

General entry requirements for our Advanced Vocational Qualifications include 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English and/or Maths. For Creative Media we are looking for applicants with a 4 in Art & Design or a creative subject.

What you will Learn

You will develop and extend your practical, technical, creative and independence skills. You will enhance your understanding and appreciation of art and design as well as develop a critical understanding of artists & designers and how they advance their practice.

Unique Features of our Art & Design course include: Trips to art galleries, Field visits to gather subject matter, Open access studio, Active participation in our college art show, Visits to and from external artists and creative practitioners.

Assessment

The course is 100% coursework. There are 3 different projects in each year covering the separate units that make up your final grade. The grades are weighted so that you gain more marks in your second year to reflect your development and ensure that you’ve had the maximum opportunity to reach your full potential.

Progression

The skills you develop through this course will set you in good stead when applying for degree level courses within the creative industry, as well as opening up various employment opportunities.
